15 AUGUST - 21 AUGUST, 2018
FRIDAY 17 AUGUST • 7 - 10 PM
Courtney Charles, a Wisconsin native originally developed his photography and work with colorful images while working in Minneapolis. Courtney has lived and worked professionally in New York City for nearly five years. Starting with a passion for portrait photography, this soon grew into a desire to explore new ideas through fashion and fine art. His most recent accolades include having been published in multiple fashion magazines and having presenting his art at several major galleries. Through his work Courtney offers innovative and exciting visions of the future with provocative, colorful imagery. Much of Courtney’s work strives to shift people’s perceptions of gender, race, sexuality, and social norms.
Courtney Charles’s motivation for the Ken series was to create imagery of the toys men wish they’d had growing up. Had society provided the opportunity these are the dolls that LGBT children and others would have idolized. The Ken series also explores sexual attraction and realism.
